There is no denying that winter is here. With subzero temperatures, snow and ice it’s no time to find yourself unprepared in an emergency situation. We have compiled a list of must have items to ensure safety through the winter months, as we dream of warmer weather.
For the Car:
- Extra hat, coat, gloves and a blanket to stay warm
- Good pair of snow boots. If not your every day wear, be sure to have a good warm boot that you can walk in through snow and ice
- Phone charger
- Water and snacks
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- Windshield scraper
- Shovel to dig out of snow, if car gets stuck
- Sand, kitty litter, or road salt to help with tire traction if stuck
- Tire chains
- Spare tire or fix a flat
- Booster cables
- Hazard reflectors or flares
For the Home
- Week’s worth of nonperishable foods
- Bottled water (1 gallon/person for a 5 day period is recommended)
- Full/extra pet food
- Full/extra supply of any necessary medications
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Battery powered radio
- First aid kit
- Generator
- Extra blankets, warm clothing or alternative heating source in case of power outage
It is a good idea to take inventory and stock up at the threat of storms. Better safe then sorry 🙂
